CASNR Student Advisory Council Meeting Minutes February 21, 2002 The College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources Student Advisory Council held its monthly meeting on Thursday, February 21, 2002. President Lisa White presided. The first order of business was the call for a new secretary. Secretary Erika Bible stepped down from her position. Susan Conlon volunteered to serve as secretary for the remainder of the school year. Awards Chair Ella Brown gave reminder about submitting award nominations for the CASNR Awards Banquet. The banquet will be held on April 2, at 6:00 p.m. Criteria for the various faculty, staff, and student awards are outlined in the Special Awards Issue of the CASNR Report; copies of this issue can be found on designated stands throughout the Ag Campus. Award guidelines and forms are also found on the CASNR webpage or emailed (in a WordPerfect file) upon request (contact Ella Brown at ebrown7@utk.edu). Nominations can be made either by the clubs or an individual. Award nominations are due Tuesday, March 5, in the Dean's office, hard copies only. Student of the Month and Faculty of the Month Award nominations are also due March 5. Nominations and resumes should be sent electronically to Ella (ebrown7@utk.edu). Open House Chair Monette Vessell announced the next Open House meeting will be held Thursday, February 28, at 5:30 p.m. in Morgan Hall Room 212B. All Open House representatives should attend. Plans will be finalized so that information can be shared with the Vet School. CASNR Report articles are due Thursday, March 14. Thanks and acknowledgement were given to ASAE for donating their money winnings from the Toy Drive to the Boys and Girls Club. Dr. Albrecht noted the deadline for College Ambassador applications is Friday, March 15. Representatives from all majors are encouraged to apply. Ambassador responsibilities include working new student orientation, giving tours, recruiting at high schools, helping with Ag Day and Varsity Visit, making student contacts and visits, and more. Faculty advisors are Dr. Kim Jensen and Emily Gray. Contact the Dean's office, faculty advisors, or current College Ambassadors for more information. A representative from Sigma Alpha announced their annual Week O' Fun will be held March 6-9. Proceeds will benefit the Serenity Shelter. All students are encouraged to participate in the variety of activities. Information about the event was dispersed to club representatives. Contact a member from Sigma Alpha for more information. A representative from the Wildlife Society announced the Game Dinner will be held Friday, February 22, in Hollingsworth Auditorium at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $8. All are encouraged to attend. A representative from Mortar Board announced that the organization is accepting applications for next year. Those who are graduating in December 2002 or soon thereafter are encouraged to apply. Criteria for applying include having at least a 3.2 GPA. Forty applicants will be selected. Applications are due February 25. Dr. Albrecht reported that candidates are currently being interviewed for the PSLS Department Head position. There are also faculty searches being conducted in Entomology and Plant Pathology. A new turf professor has been hired. Ella Brown announced Leadership Workshops will be held Wednesdays at 2:00 or 3:00 p.m. in the UC. She also advertised an opening for a Media Relations position with the Unite Our Cities board. Unite Our Cities unites campuses from all over in remembering the September 11 tragedy via memorial services. Contact Ella for more information. The next Student Advisory Council meeting will be held Tuesday, March 12.
