CASNR Student Advisory Council Meeting Minutes Meeting called to order at 5:30 p.m. by President Michael Petty. Membership attendance was taken by representatives signing a roll sheet. Open House Due to scheduling conflicts and issues with planning, Open House has been cancelled for this year. Varsity Visit Varsity visit this year will be Saturday, March 31st before the orange and white game. One or two students from each department will be needed for table displays, similar to Ag open house. This event is coordinated with the FFA to help boost the interest of high school students in majoring in the agricultural sciences. Registration for the high school students will start around 8:00 a.m. Anyone interested in helping should contact their department head. New Faculty Members Dr. Keith Belli – Professor and Head, Forestry, Wildlife & Fisheries Dr. Amy Johnson – Assistant Professor, Biosytems Engineering & Soil Science Dr. Annette Wszelaki – Assistant Professor, Plant Sciences Dr. Jason Henning – Assistant Professor, Forestry, Wildlife & Fisheries Dean Search The dean search is still going on. Information can be found on the Dean Search website at http://www.casnr.utk.edu/deansearch/ . Interviews are going to be conducted in February-they will be an opportunity for students to come and ask questions. More information will be sent out on the listserv. Commencement The CASNR commencement ceremony will be held Thursday, May 10th at 2:30 p.m. in Hall B of the Convention Center. Cap and gown orders need to be placed in the UT bookstore by Friday, March 23rd. Student volunteers will be needed as ushers – contact Angie Berry in the Dean’s office. Student IDs The registrar’s office will not be changing all student ID numbers to non-social security until later in the semester, probably after commencement. CASNR Awards Banquet The college wide awards banquet is scheduled for April 3rd at 5:30 p.m.. The deadline for awards nominations is February 16th. To nominate someone, go to http://casnr.tennessee.edu – the link is under “For Faculty and Staff”. Nominations are open to anyone and for anyone. Announcements Forestry Club is still selling firewood until the weather warms up. Alpha Zeta has placed boxes in various buildings around campus for collecting supplies for the humane society as a part of philanthropy. Next month on February 15th Farm Credit Services will be stopping by at 6:00 p.m. to discuss opportunities. Undergraduates are highly encouraged to join a club or organization in CASNR that is of interest to them – all are welcome even if they haven’t had many classes on the ag campus.
