CASNR Student Council Meeting Minutes
February 15, 2001

The CASNR Student Council met on February 15 with one of the first acts of business being to discuss the upcoming Awards Banquet, which is to be held on April 3. To open the meeting, Dr. Mike Mullen presented a plan for expanding the banquet to include a greater number of students from each department.  Ella Brown, Student Awards Chair, further outlined this idea by stating that each department would be represented by an outstanding student from every class. After much debate, it was confirmed by the council that CASNR Outstanding Student Awards would be selected in the traditional manner, while each individual department would choose its outstanding students as it deems best. Ella Brown announced that March 5 would be the deadline for nominations for CASNR Outstanding Students and March Student of the Month, while March 12 would be the deadline for the departmental awards. Then, Lisa White brought forth the suggestion to establish a Club of the Year Award, and it was decided that Lisa White and Lydia White would be in charge of this award. Next on the agenda, Nick West announced that CASNR Report articles would be due on March 8, and Johnny Barnes proceeded to give the SGA Undergraduate Academic Council report. In opening up further new business, Lisa White brought up the idea of amending the Council’s constitution to include an appointed position for a Christmas Philanthropy Coordinator. After much discussion from the council, it was determined that Suzanne Womac would write up the amendment, present it at the March meeting, and the council would vote on the amendment at the April meeting.

In closing, Dr. Albrecht informed council members of the changes concerning graduation. She stated that the applications for senior standing and for graduation were being combined, with the deadline for Fall graduation being May 31 and the deadline for Spring 2002 graduation being August 22. Dr. Albrecht also noted that the college would be establishing its own graduation ceremony and was open to any suggestions from students concerning this ceremony. In addition, Dr. Albrecht reminded students that on Sunday, February 18, the college would have its power shut off. Also, Suzanne Womac announced that Cargill would be speaking to interested students at the Block and Bridle meeting on February 21 and conducting interviews on campus on February 22. Finally, Joanna Konerman announced that Sigma Alpha’s Week of Fun would be held March 5-9 and all clubs were encouraged to participate.
