CASNR Student Advisory Council Meeting Minutes

March 12, 2002

The College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources Student Advisory Council held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 12, 2002.  President Lisa White presided.

The first order of business involved an announcement from Public Relations Chair Julie Pedigo.  Julie is collecting information about Open House and the clubs’ booths.  She will write up press releases regarding Open House activities and submit them to the Daily Beacon for advertisement for the event.  Information should be emailed to Julie, jpedigo@utk.edu.  Open House is scheduled for April 12-13.  Student Council representatives are asked to wear their Student Council shirts on Friday, April 12.

Students were reminded of important dates for upcoming events and deadlines.  These include:

  • SGA Elections will be held April 2-3.  Students are reminded to vote online off the SGA webpage.
  • The Annual CASNR Scholarship Banquet (by invitation only) will be held Tuesday, April 2.
  • Student of the Month nominations should be submitted electronically to Awards Chair Ella Brown, ebrown7@utk.edu, by Monday, April 8.
  • CASNR Report articles are due Thursday, April 11.

The next order of business was to set the date for the final Student Advisory Council meeting for the 2001-2002 Council.  It will be held Thursday, April 18, at 5:30 p.m. in Morgan Hall, Room 212B.  All clubs should have elected a new representative by that time, and old representatives should accompany the new representatives to the final meeting.  A group photo of the 2002-2003 Student Advisory Council will be taken to post on the CASNR website.  Attendance at the final meeting is a must.

Applications for next year’s CASNR Student Advisory Council officers are due Monday, April 15.  They can be picked up in the Dean’s Office.  Officer positions are President, Vice President, Secretary, and 2 Members-at-Large.  Officer duties are outlined in the application.

Applications for next year’s appointed positions for the Council are also available in the Dean’s Office.  These applications are due Thursday, April 25, and duties for each position are also outlined in the application form.  These positions include UAC Representative, CASNR Report Newsletter Editor, Open House Chair, Awards Chair, Public Relations Chair, and Community Service Chair.

Dr. Albrecht asked students to be more aware of their surroundings and be extra careful when it comes to safety.  Following an incident involving a student being assaulted on the Ag Campus, she warned students that our campus is an urban campus, and students should be more cautious and attentive to their surroundings.  Margaret Smith, Ag Campus Safety Officer, is working with police to prepare information on safety to distribute to clubs.

A representative from Alpha Gamma Rho announced that their annual Mudbowl event will be held Saturday, April 27.  For a $75 fee, a team of seven girls can participate in this mudwrestling event.  Proceeds from the event will benefit the Walter P. Taylor Boys and Girls Club.  Contact an AGR representative for further details.

The final meeting for the 2001-2002 CASNR Student Advisory Council will be held Thursday, April 18.  Representatives for the 2002-2003 Council should attend as well.
