Located at the West Tennessee Research & Education Center in Jackson, TN
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Research Associate will conduct physiological research primarily on cotton, soybeans, corn, and wheat through field, greenhouse, and lab experiments. Primary duties include carefully following prescribed protocols to take physiological measurements of plants and to collect, process, and analyze plant and soil samples for physical and chemical properties. Duties also include helping to plan and conduct field operations such as laying-out plots, planting, managing pests, and harvesting; helping to manage a glasshouse including managing
pests and taking care of plants; making crosses (hybridizations); maintaining research equipment including irrigation systems; keeping detailed logs of all activities; providing technical support to graduate students; and organizing, managing, and analyzing large amounts of data.
QUALIFICATIONS: A B.S. degree plus two years of relevant experience in Agronomy, Plant Breeding, Biology, Agriculture, Soil Science, Weed Science, Agricultural Engineering or closely related field required. An M.S. degree is preferred. The successful candidate will possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving and communication skills; the ability to
work both independently and as part of a team. Farm and lab experience highly preferred. Experience in Microsoft Excel and SAS or statistical knowledge is also preferred. Valid driver’s license is required. Applicant must be currently authorized to work long term in the U.S.
