| Description | This 12 month tenure track position in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences, University of Kentucky is located at the West Kentucky Research and Education Center in Princeton, Kentucky and includes both extension (80%) and research (20%) responsibilities.
Duties include: (1) developing comprehensive soils training programs for county agents, producers, agribusinesses, and partner agencies; (2) communicating with citizens, public officials, and others on soil and nutrient management impacts on the environment; (3) disseminating up-to-date production technology in collaboration with current extension and research faculty; (4) providing expertise in diagnosing soil related plant growth and environmental problems; and (5) conducting on-farm and on-station field trials.
While this position may work in broad areas associated with soil management, the appointee will help farmers efficiently manage nutrients for profitable and sustainable cropping systems and will provide statewide leadership on issues and policies relating to the application of animal manures, fertilizers, biosolids, and other materials in sustainable crop, forage, and bioenergy production. The appointee will develop an applied research program to address soil related agricultural and environmental concerns identified by clientele and will develop extension and referred journal publications based on that applied research.
A Ph.D. in Soil Science, Agronomy or a related discipline is required, with an emphasis in soil nutrient management, soil chemistry, or soil/environment interactions preferred. We seek an individual with broad-based training in soil systems and with crop production field experience. The ability to communicate effectively with extension and research colleagues and clientele is essential. Previous extension experience is an asset.
