ORNL scientist Sokhansanj appointed Adjunct Professor



The Department welcomes Dr. Shahab Sokhansanj, as a newly appointed Adjunct Professor in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering.

Professor Sokhansanj is a research leader with the Bioenergy Feedstock Development Program at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). His area of expertise is supply logistics and agricultural systems analysis. He will be collaborating with Dr. Pordesimo and other members of the Department on biomass/bioenergy research projects including densification and physical characterization of bioenergy and biobased feedstock.

Dr. Sokhansanj received his B.Sc. degree from the University of Tehran, and M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Michigan State University. Prior to joining ORNL, he was a Professor of Agricultural and Bioresource Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada.

Shahab is a native of Iran. He and his wife Gity have two children, a daughter Banafsheh, and a son Bahrad. Banafsheh is a lawyer in Vancouver, British Columbia. Bahrad is an engineering physicist completing a Ph.D. at Lawrence Livermore/UC Davis.

Shahab enjoys swimming and is an avid trekker. Please welcome Dr. Sokhansanj and feel free to call him Shahab as you see him around the department.
