Soil VOLS to Compete in National Contest

The University of Tennessee collegiate soil judging team is on the way to compete in the National Collegiate Soils Contest in Springfield, Missouri. The Soil Vols qualified for the national contest by placing second in the Southeastern Soil Judging contest at Virginia Tech last October.

Six members of the team are making the trip: Brian Lester, Stephen Holland, James Hartsig, Kyley Dickson, Kinder Tuckwiller and Brent Worley. The team is coached by Ryan Blair and Dr. Tom Ammons of the Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science Department. The team is sponsored by the Plant, Soil and Environmental Science club, the Department of Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science, and the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

Permanent trophies are provided for each of the first three teams with the winning team receiving the large traveling trophy until a winner is announced next year.
