“SOIL VOLS” Qualify for National Competition

The University of Tennessee soil judging team qualified for national competition in the Southeastern Regional contest held on October 19, 2007. The contest was hosted by Eastern Kentucky University near Richmond, Kentucky. The University of Tennessee team joins Virginia Tech, University of Georgia, West Virginia University, and the University of Kentucky in representing the Southeastern Region. This year's “Soil Vols” team consisted of the following individuals: Ryan Blair, Brian Lester (7th individual in region),
Art Fisher, Katie Gassaway, Ben Robinson and Bobby Evans. Soil judging activities are sponsored in part by the Plant, Soil and Environmental Science Club, the Department of Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science, and the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. The “Soil Vols” are coached by Dr. J.T. Ammons in the Department of Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science.
