Grad Student wins award

Abdullah Cihan was awarded a scholarship (tuition, board, and lodging) to attend the Summer School in Geophysical Porous Media held at Purdue University from July 17-28th, 2006. The NSF funded program is composed of a mixture of lectures and team projects that will address: micro-models of porous media, colloidal transport, multiphase field-scale modeling, bubble transport, microbial mobility, and biofilms and bioremediation.

Abdullah arrived in the department last fall with a BS in Hydrogeologic Engineering and a MS in Geological Engineering; his masterís research was published in Water Resources Research. This spring Abdullah submitted a manuscript describing the infiltration of animal waste to Transactions of the ASABE and he is currently completing a literature review on his tentative Ph.D. topic, the effect of acoustic waves in porous media.
Congratulations Abdullah!
