Home Again!

Heath Haun, a senior in the Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science Department, is happy to be home. After spending nearly a year at Camp Virginia in Kuwait, he was thrilled to see creeks, lakes, and streams, and to see and feel the rain in East Tennessee. As a Staff Sergeant for the C Company, 844 Engineers, Haun worked as the job foreman for construction sites focusing on road building. He was the 2nd squad leader for the Earth Movement unit and was stationed in Kuwait from December 17, 2004 to December 13, 2005, just shy of one year. His 8 year contract with the Army Reserve is complete.

At the University of Tennessee Heath is majoring in Environmental and Soil Science. He is not yet sure if he will continue on to graduate school, but he is certain that he wants to work in his chosen field. He is interested in pursuing a career with the EPA and is open to traveling. But for now, he is glad to have the travel of the last year behind him. When asked what he missed most about Tennessee, he replied, “Football, of course.” While in Kuwait he and other soldiers read quite a bit and also had fun playing basketball and volleyball in their spare time.

Haun remarked that he is glad to be back in school and is excited about finishing up his undergraduate education in the Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science Department. He stayed in close contact with his advisor, Dr. Joanne Logan, while he was away. She even mailed him a text book so that he could finish his Climatology course online. He is grateful for all the help members of the department have given him while he was in Kuwait and happy to be back at UT.
