Sewell Appointed Interim Head

December 2, 2005 -- The University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture has announced that Dr. John I. (Ike) Sewell has been appointed Interim Head of the Biosystems Engineeering & Soil Science department.

Dr. Sewell replaces the current Interim Head, Dr. Raj Raman, who has accepted a faculty position at Iowa State University. The department deeply appreciates Dr. Raman's service during the past twelve years, and wishes him great success in his new position.

Dr. Sewell began his academic career in the department, then known as Agricultural Engineering, in 1962. After rising to the rank of Professor, he then served the department as Associate Head prior to being appointed Associate Dean of the Tennessee Agricultural Experiment Station. Dr. Sewell is a strong believer in the department, and in the tri-fold mission of the land grant institution. He has kindly come out of retirement to serve as Interim Head for the next few months until a permanent Head is named.
