Logan Teaches Upward Bound Students

Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families or from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree. UTK is sponsoring 60 high school students from Tennessee and several other states for a four-week program in science and math.

Dr. Joanne Logan of UT's Biosystems Engineering & Soil Science Department sponsored a two-hour workshop on How GPS Works for 18 of these students. They used Etrex Legend GPS receivers to locate six "geocache" boxes on the ag campus. Each box contained a "clue" to their next destination.

The last site was the best of all -- refreshing snacks on a muggy evening. For more information: loganj@utk.edu
