Help Push Bledsoe Scholarship Over the Top!

Knoxville, TN -- At the beginning of 2003, the Department committed to endowing a scholarship in memory of Dr. Bobby Bledsoe, beloved professor and friend, who passed away last year. The University requires a minimum of $25,000 for such a fund. A number of people around campus, with experience trying to raise similar funds, doubted our prospects.

To date, we have received $21,350 from faculty, staff, and alumni. One generous donor, who has been out of school for less than 10 years, has pledged a large portion of this.

We can begin to award the scholarship only when the full amount is in hand. Dr. Willie Hart, who is heading up the effort, would like to see us reach the minimum by the end of December, to decisively recognize the impact of Dr. Bledsoe's life. As one donor put it, this will allow Dr. Bledsoe to continue doing what he did best -- give.
