AgriTourism

Many farmers have discovered opportunities for generating additional income and ways to provide educational and recreational opportunities through various Agri-Tourism ventures.

However, operating an Agri-Tourism enterprise presents new safety and legal challenges for farmers that they may not have dealt with before.  These include:
  • increased liability exposure resulting from inviting the public on the farm
  • improved employee training and machinery safety, especially where the public is exposed to risks such as hayrides
  • adherance to biosecurity protocols to prevent spread of plant and animal disease
  • need for a business license and sales tax collection
  • compliance with OSHA standards for general industry for the retail and recreation/tourism portions of the business
  • inspections and compliance with local building codes for buildings that will be occupied by the public
Please take time to browse through the materials available from UT Extension and other Agr-Tourism partners, and contact us with your questions.  Check back often for new resource materials.
