Biosystems Engineering Undergraduate Educational Objectives and Outcomes
Educational Objectives
In order to meet the objectives of the University of Tennessee Institute
of Agriculture, program graduates will receive the educational tools
necessary to perform as entry-level engineering professionals. Recent
graduates are prepared to:
- Compete well for employment on the national level,
- Meet their own and societal needs that are consistent
with the goals of life-long learning, professional ethics, and leadership,
- Perform as entry-level engineers in a manner that positively
reflects on the overall program's national reputation.
Program Outcomes
To achieve the educational objectives listed above, a series of program
outcomes have been adopted for students to have achieved by the time of
their graduation. These outcomes are:
a) an ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering,
b) an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data,
c) an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs,
d) an ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams,
e) an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems,
f) an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility,
g) an ability to communicate effectively,
h) the broad education necessary to understand the impact of
engineering solutions in a global and societal context,
i) a recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in, life-long learning,
j) a knowledge of contemporary issues,
k) an ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering
tools necessary for engineering practice,
l) an understanding of the complexity of biological systems, and
the ability to apply engineering principles to those systems.
