This award is made possible by earnings from the Thompson Faculty Endowment and is presented annually to faculty in the Institute who have distinguished themselves by their exceptional performance. This award rotates among the four divisions within the Institute of Agriculture.
William Hart receives this award on the strength of his teaching abilities and dedication to students. He is known for his course preparation and teaches a diverse mix of four classes while maintaining an active research program in power and machinery, his areas of expertise. He helps to coordinate Institute events such as Ag day, FFA Career Development fairs, and numerous 4-H activities.
He is regarded as excellent in every phase of his work, but he excels in front of students. In 1999, UT's National Alumni Association recognized Hart's gifts in this area with its Outstanding Teaching award, selecting him from a field of 200 nominees. Students and alumni hold him in high esteem.
