| Publication: Adaptive Controls
for Tractors and Machinery This six-page publication
provides an overview of the types of modifications that might be
suitable for persons with certain disabilities. CAUTION: Because
modifications to controls have inherent risks and can contribute to
mishaps if they do not function as intended, always seek the advice and
services of a qualified rehabilitation engineer or other professional
when planning, fabricating, and
installing modifications on any equipment. |

The Tennessee AgrAbility Project is a cooperative effort of the University of Tennessee Agricultural Extension Service and Easter Seals in Tennessee. We have joined together to create a project to benefit Tennessee's farmers, farm workers and their family members who have disabilities.
The AgrAbility Project provides individualized services on the farm or at the work setting to help disabled individuals return to farming, the community and independent living. AgrAbility involves the family, community, agricultural professionals and medical and rehabilitation specialists, drawing upon the strengths and experiences of each to help the farmer return to independence. Assistance may be in the form of technical assistance, such as designing modifications for the machinery, farm structures and home, or it may be in the form of counseling, peer support or referrals to appropriate service agencies.
The
bottom line: By taking advantage of the farmers' ingenuity and the
expertise of agricultural, engineering and rehabilitation specialists,
we look
for solutions to the farmers' problems.
